There is only one thing which is certain in both life and home business, and that is change. As you know, we change as we travel through life. Similarly, our online businesses must change and remain fluid with the demands of the market. If we do not predict, recognize, and embrace change for our home business, we will be left behind.
I am fairly positive that each and every person who is reading this article knows of at least one person who has rebelled against the computer age, by refusing to learn how to use a computer, or even send an e-mail. I have seen this quite frequently when dealing with other lawyers. In fact, one lawyer pointed to a piece of paper and asked how to make what was on the paper show up on the computer monitor. I’m not really sure how someone could allow themselves to become that lost.
Where lawyers can hide from computers, and hire secretaries to do their dirty work (ie. take words from paper and put them on screen), those who own a home business cannot take this approach. You must keep your ear to the ground and be ready to adapt to change before it comes. In order to be successful in business in general, you and your business must be fluid and flexible. Below, we will take a look at a few different options which you can utilize if you have problems adapting to change.
1. Of course I do not advise this, but your first option is to maintain the status quo of your home business, and reject change. Just note that such behavior is rooted in a fear of change, and an even deeper feeling of being incompetent in a new setting. People sometimes avoid change because it requires that they attain a new ability which they are afraid they will not perfect. Unfortunately, if you choose this first option, your home business will fail very quickly.
2. Option number two give involves taking on change slowly. This can actually be a good strategy for the person who is very resistant to change. What often happens is that once the individual sees the positive effects which change brings about, they become huge proponents of doing things in the new way.
3. A third method is coming up with every possible scenario for change, and trying to determine how you will adapt your home business in each circumstance. Those who are high strung tend to flock to this option. Unfortunately, such an option is a big waste of time. If you are one of these people who needs to try and be ready for any possible scenario due to anxiety caused by change, I strongly suggest that you stick to doing my taxes.
4. The final, and most desirable possibility is taking the approach which recognizes that change is a part of life, as well as home business. These individuals realize that when we fail to change, we fail to evolve. According to Darwinism, those who fail to evolve become extinct. Those who recognize this fact are ideal for home business. Not only do these people welcome change, they often generate change. They realize that change is the catalyst to positive activity, and lifts us upwards. Such people are quick to make the necessary adaptations to market shifts, and suffer the least from inevitabilities, such as a recession. These are the individuals who are most fit to survive in home business.
