There is an epidemic growing at such magnitude that, CBS’s New York based, “The Early Show” discussed it in a recent segment. In an effort to raise awareness a celebrity used his popular TV show to bring it to the surface, magazines are publishing articles, and social media forums are gathering opinions. Society wants to know, Is this epidemic a Choice or an economic induced Lifestyle Change?
This impetus National Epidemic is infiltrating every corner of Society, from our Homes to Malls, Schools and Work it has even established a presence at elite events such as the Opera!
Alliances have formed against it, on social media sites, magazine articles feature it, Jerry Seinfeld did an episode about it and now it’s on CBS. What is driving it? Is This A Choice? or A Lifestyle Change. Has the economy pushed people so far down that they just don’t care anymore.
Based on the Early Show’s interviews conducted on the streets of New York City, the epidemic is attributed to nothing more than personal choice, not a result of economic times, just choice, and that my friend is a direct benefit of living in this country.
Okay, it’s time to unveil the National Epidemic that has consumed this great nation therefore, creating the media frenzy! You may be shocked to know that you are a contributing factor. The question is do you care? I assure you others do! This horrible Epidemic that has taken the nation by storm is “Sweatpants”. Oh yeah, believe it or not people are rockin’ their Sweatpants outside of their home and the gym. This behavior is frowned upon and can’t be accepted by all of society so it’s has been labeled an Epidemic.
Hopefully, you were fortunate enough to catch this segment on the “Early Show”, if not you can check the archive files on their website and see a photo of a model rockin’ High Heels with her Sweatpants! No Joke! Roberts Rassi of Marie Claire’s was interviewed and stated, “If you wear Sweatpants, “You should always dress them up, always, always wear a heel.” He also said “Always wear something tailored, something with a sparkle, a blazer or a sharp shirt.” You know people will actually do this, right! What an astute marketing strategy, transforming a new Fashion Trend from a, so called, “Epidemic.”
Why do I view this as a marketing strategy? Because I am a Marketer, focused on product promotion and presentation. The Sweatpant market is increasing, yet as is provides little income opportunity for the fashion industry. So they ramped up a “fashion” epidemic to build a “New and Improved” look, with heels and accessories.
I have to say, the strategy is great though I will NEVER wear heels or something with a sparkle with my sweatpants. Even when I wear them to work primarily because, I work at home. When in my comfort zone I want to be just that, comfortable! If you would like to be comfortable too then check this out.
