Joomla is a Content Management System (CMS) that employs open sources, and is a very powerful framework for running applications. Joomla’s foundations can be traced to the year 2000; ever since, it has been respected by most Indian businesses as a very well-conceived Content Management System.

This program was created to deal with various kinds of websites; you will find that you can create different website capabilities through the use of ‘extensions’ and ‘mini-applications’. Similar to other Content Management Systems, Joomla restrains data and all associated content on a website, and the CMS assists in putting the text into the template of the website to form web pages.

A Joomla web designer that is hired from a company in India will do design in Joomla and do the transfer to business websites. Those who are new to Joomla and Content Management Systems will appreciate the user-friendly data and even the customized tools that are easier to comprehend. Due to the ability for customization and development, the platform will be picked by developers. The design and development of the contemporary MVC framework came about in a manner that allowed anyone with the information to override the core of the CMS without even changing the original coding. The capability for the generation of multi-sites is needed by Joomla. While it is not prevailing enough to do anything, it is prevailing enough to be practical.

Pros and Cons of Joomla Web Design: It is user friendly for users on all levels, including designers, developers and administrators. There is a large community that has been outstanding in assisting with website creation. The program has been rapidly growing and improving over the course of three years.

It is still not entirely user-friendly, does not have the power of Drupal, and tends to be somewhat complicated for some to use. They recently rebuilt the entire system in its entirety, so there are still quite a few users staying with the old versions.

Simple Tips On How To Use Joomla Templates

What is Joomla? It is Open Source software available under the General Public License. Simply put, it is software that anyone can access and use. Joomla happens to be a great way to simply and easily create professional-looking websites and blogs.

The developers of Joomla create templates that can suit any website look that you need, some of these are offered for sale, but many of these templates are available to the user of Joomla free of charge. This article will give you a better understanding of how to use Joomla templates.

Some of you may have already downloaded a Joomla template, only to find yourself totally confused about how to use it. One of the first problems many people encounter is downloading a template that did not include the proper installation instructions. The good news is that these templates are pretty easy to install. If you want to learn how to use these templates, there are two main approaches. We’ll start out with the simplest one.

When learning the basics of Joomla templates using this method, make sure you have Joomla 1.5 or greater. Also make sure to remember that your Joomla template will most often come in a zip file. This is pretty standard and you probably won’t find many that aren’t compressed. Don’t worry about unzipping the file. Joomla will do this for you. Simply open up your Joomla interface and log in to the administrative area. Just look for the word “Extensions” on the main menu and click on that tab.

After this step, you’ll see a menu that includes an ‘Install/Uninstall’ option. Click on this, and give the next page a moment to load. You’ll now see a page entitled ‘Extension Manager Page’. Once this loads completely, select the ‘Choose File’ option. Next, simply locate the folder which you originally downloaded your template’s .zip file, and once you’ve highlighted it, click on the ‘Upload File & Install’ option. Once again, give this page a few moments to completely upload. When this completes, you’ll see a message that reads ‘Install Template Success’. Next, click over to the Template Manager function and choose your newly uploaded template.

The alternate method of how to use Joomla templates requires a bit more knowledge, as well as the use of an FTP program to transfer files. When you do this method, you’ll need up unzip your template file prior to installation, so make sure that your computer is capable of performing this function.

Once you’ve unzipped your template file, you’ll see a folder which contains the files which comprise your template. After the file is extracted, open up your FTP program and link it to your Joomla website. Find the ‘Templates’ folder using the FTP program’s interface within your Joomla website, and upload your unzipped template folder into this directory. This transfer may take a few moments. Once is has been completed, perform the same steps that were originally laid out and click over to the Template Manager, selecting this new template set.

Now, you should have a better understanding of using templates, and know how to use them to improve your own website.

Layout is what makes your content look the way it looks when you’re building a website. Layout is what makes your content look the way it looks when you’re building a website. Remember! Choose by a structure - imagine how do you want home page and other pages to look like? Do you want to have images, links and media? Or you want more plain text pages? Do you want an image in your header? Ask yourself all questions you have before ordering a template. Try to avoid templates that look good but too much design work to be done in it to make it suitable for you.

Most modern Joomla templates allow you to do necessary changes to make design unique and suitable to your idea. You can change colors, images and fonts and make your website user and SEO friendly. You should make sure that template supports all customization options you may need before buying it. Note to self - customization is a slight improvement but not a total redesign.

How To Be A Successful Web 2.0 Puppetmaster

One of the key characteristics of Web 2.0 is participation, collaboration and moderation through the use of web applications. Web 2.0 sites derive their power from the human connections and network effects from this characteristic that is made possible, and grow in effectiveness the more people use them.

The idea of “participation, collaboration and moderation” can take many forms. If you look back history, bulletin boards are one form, online forums are another, online multiplayer games, content management systems (e.g. Wikis, Joomla), dating sites and classifieds as well. If not for features that enable multiple users to create their own space within a website via registering accounts or at least leave a message (like a comment in a blog), the communication culture would have been one-way (from the webmaster to the visitors) and remain stuck in 1.0.

Why would a webmaster want to go Web 2.0? We learned that social networkers want to expand their personal network of online friends. On the other hand, the webmaster desires to build up a core group of active participants who unconsciously help to sustain the ‘liveliness’ and therefore the longevity of the website and its agenda or interests while the overall database of users expand. In this manner, a lot of the effort that goes into building the database (or list) becomes very much hands-off for the webmaster. There’s leverage. This is also where moderation comes in. The role of the webmaster naturally becomes that of the moderator, whose job is to maintain some semblance of order (but not to the point of creating a restrictive environment) and general site maintenance. It gets better when the webmaster can promote participants into moderators themselves, and more and more s/he becomes the “silent puppetmaster” behind the scene without doing much. It may not be easy, but the whole mindset of being a moderator is to gain confidence in just “letting it be” and letting his/her site runs by itself.

Now that the webmaster’s motivation is addressed, s/he must find ways to avoid competition by finding new twists to contribute to the Web 2.0 bandwagon. Much as new sites keep popping up in recent months, somehow no 2 sites are made the same and they certainly enjoy a good amount of traffic anyway. It would be better when you can boil down social networking to the context of a specific niche, like a site to exchange Mexican recipes or talk about Ferrari car accessories or business opportunities in Central Asia. You can better target the type of people you are looking for and it also gives them a sharper sense of purpose to engage with and within your site.

At the end of the day, social networking is all about sharing valuable content and making friends. The successful Web 2.0 webmaster is one who knows how to tap on this human desire to the fullest and consistently encourages such a desire to grow within the culture of the social network he has created by offering further privileges for more prominent members. Really, there’s no better way for them to build up credibility and make their personalities known than to be consistently ‘alive’ and ‘happening’ on the Net. From the SEO standpoint of view, you can also accumulate more backlinks and subsequently more traffic to your social networking site.

Thinking About Getting a New Website? Build it on a CMS! Here’s Why…

People expect more from the Internet these days. Just 5 years ago, having a small, information-only website was enough to be ‘good.’ Now, the demands have changed, and to compete with industry leaders, you need to implement a lot of new features. Fortunately, today’s content management systems make that task easier than ever.

By building you website on a content management system (CMS) - like Drupal or Joomla - you’ll find it’s very easy to add/change content, additional features and plug-ins that used to take serious development time are now available in easy-to-install packages, and built-in blogging software (which you should be using to regularly add content to your site for SEO) is easy to use and search engine friendly.

Think of a CMS as the powerful groundwork for easily making your website do more. As your visitors expect more from your website, you can meet and exceed their expectations by taking advantage of the main features of a content management system:

* Update your site’s content without ever talking to your webmaster. A lot of the frustration in maintaining a website is the response time of the average web maintenance request. With a CMS, there’s no reason to talk to your webmaster for routine updates - just log in to your administration area, click the page you want to change, make your changes, and click ‘Save.’ It’s all done! If you’d like to add a new page, the process is similar in complexity (or should I say, simplicity). No more waiting on important updates to your content - now you can do it from any computer with Internet access.

* Add powerful applications and plug-ins with only a few clicks. Note the ’share’ buttons at the bottom of this page. From the time I thought ?Hey, I should add those little social networking buttons to the bottom of my pages, to the time that they were there, was about 30 seconds. I just typed in ’social buttons’ on the plug-in finder, clicked ‘install’ on the popular package, and it was automatically downloaded to my web server, installed, and activated, just like that. The same is true for analytics software, spam-blocking apps, and many other useful plug-ins. These add value by allowing your visitors to easily share your website with their network, and save you time by weeding out the spam comments. There are tons of different plug-ins, for just about everything you can think of, and the right combination can really make your website perform at its best.

* Search engines love content management systems. Well, as long as you install the SEO plug-in - which gives you search engine friendly URLs (www.yoursite.com/sweet-article-title instead of www.yoursite.com/?=node_32?=article). More specifically, search engines love fresh content, and by using a CMS, search engines think that your content will be updated more frequently than others, giving you a more frequent crawl rate (which is good because the changes and pages you add to your site will be indexed sooner and show up on the search results page faster).

* Starting and maintaining a blog just got easy. There’s no code to learn, just click ‘New Post,’ and start typing. When you’re finished, hit ‘Publish’ or ‘Save’ and it’s automatically featured on your home page and added to the correct categories you chose. With the SEO pack, the article is also submitted to the search engines. I notice that after I finish an article, it takes less than 24 hours for Google to have it in its index. One time it only took 45 minutes! Corporate blogging is something you need to do if you aren’t already. Having a large collection of helpful articles is important for showing your industry expertise and attracting more visitors to your website.

* E-Commerce is fully supported - and encouraged! Joomla’s VirtueMart extension is one of the most widely used shopping carts because it’s secure, efficient, and fully customizable. It plugs into your Joomla-based website, and provides a full-featured shopping cart and checkout system for your customers, as well as inventory and order management systems to help you manage your products more effectively.

As you can see, there are some very sizable advantages to using a Web 2.0 CMS as a backbone for your new website, giving you the capability to create an excellent user experience for your visitor, and grow your business using the power of the Internet. As always, I’m here for your comments and questions - email me - tony[at]vanivo[dot]com.
